Geography Homeschool Curriculum
Would you like to travel the world with your children? Would you like to learn about other countries and cultures? Most of us do not have the financial means or the time to take our children on an around the world expedition. However, with Let’s Go Geography, you can travel around the world from the comfort of your homeschool.
Today, I am going to share with you my honest opinion of the Let’s Go Geography, Year 2 curriculum to help you decide if it is right for your homeschooling family.
Living on the farm, we don’t get to travel much. Actually, we don’t travel at all. The daily chores and animal care keeps us home. Overall, we love our lifestyle. However, as my children get older, I want them to see the world beyond our small farm. Let’s Go Geography has been a wonderful way for us to travel around the world from the comfort of our homestead.
BE SURE TO PIN FOR LATER
Geography was one of my favorite subjects when I was a student. Even as an adult, I still love to study maps, learn about other cultures, look at beautiful pictures of landforms. We were all looking forward to starting Let’s Go Geography
What is Let’s Go Geography?
Let’s Go Geography is a homeschool geography curriculum that introduces the real world, one country at a time. Kids learn by reading, watching videos, listening to music, creating a project, coloring, and more. Each week’s lesson has about 35 pages of geography fun and activities according to their website.
Let’s Go Geography lives up to the description. The reading is interesting. The videos are short and engaging. The projects are fun and adaptable even if you don’t have the right craft supplies on hand.
Easy download, clear instructions
The first thing you will like about Let’s Go Geography is the easy download. Basically, you create an account and then each time you would like to start a new country, you log in to your account and either open the new lesson or download the lesson as a PDF. It is “an open and go” type of curriculum. No long teacher manuals to read, no supply list to shop for (except for the crafts, but you can improvise in a pinch). Just download the PDF lessons and you are ready to go!
Introduction to Continents
The first, fun activity we did was color a Travel Journal Cover. This was exciting for my children because they could imagine going on a real trip and having a real passport. They were very creative and colorful with their covers.
The first lesson was the continents of North America, South America, and Europe. I realized that my children were confused about what is a continent versus a country. This lesson taught them the difference. We also learned fun facts about the world and continents. There was a link to a fun ocean song that my kids are still going around the farm singing.
Organization of Let’s Go Geography
Organization skills are not my strong suit when it comes to homeschool papers. I loved the first activity that had the students make dividers for each continent. The children could easily file their papers behind the appropriate continent and it helped them learn on which continent the country is located.
The activities are fun. My children enjoyed coloring travel journal cover. The maps and map covers help students understand the placement of the continents and the color-coding is also very helpful.
Ease of use – no extra Books required
You will also like the suggested book list, but not the required book list. All the maps are available online. You can also use atlases that you already have on hand to look at maps. I really enjoyed the photo albums of famous places and interesting facts throughout the lessons.
My children really enjoyed the short videos in the lessons. Each lesson has many short videos, beginning with the country’s national anthem and a folk song. There are also sightseeing videos that explore unique cultural aspects and interesting areas of the country. You will really like that they are all Safe YouTube videos. You do not need to worry about your children seeing anything inappropriate.
As you work through the lessons, there is a tracking bar on the access page that shows you how far you are in the curriculum. It is such a simple feature, but I like to know how far we have come and how much we have left to complete.
Let’s Go Geography is super affordable. Regular Memberships are $27.99 and have a 2-year lifespan. This means you have 2 calendar years to download all the lessons included in your Plan. Lifetime Access Memberships are also available.
My final assessment of this curriculum is excellent! I used it for all my children who are between 7 years old to 12 years old. They all really enjoyed it. We usually used the curriculum a couple of days a week rather than every single day. With my help, my children were able to easily complete a week’s activities in 2-3 days. We all enjoyed learning many things about a variety of countries. The crafts and activities were fun and educational. I loved the layout of the lessons. It was uniform throughout each lesson which made it easy to navigate. I highly recommend you check out Let’s Go Geography. It is an amazing, affordable resource!
